It was very hard for my daughter WHO IS 10 to understand why ADULTS were making kids be in this VERY DANGEROUS situation when we always tell her that teachers and adults make decisions for kids' health, safety, and welfare.
On Thursday morning my daughter had a doctor appointment at 7:45 am at [hidden]. On our way to the hospital we saw groups of kids waiting for their school bus. My daughter was just beside herself. (Our school district was on a two hour delay). She wanted to know why these kids were waiting in the dark, in the cold. She asked many many questions. Some that I remember:
Mom, why are those kids outside--it's dangerous to be out right now.
How long are they going to have to wait?
Why is their school making them wait? Isn't it dangerous to be outside right now?
Can't their parents drive them? Look, they have to wait in the street. That's too dangerous.
We discussed that they should at least have a two hour delay because two hours later (when we were heading home) the sun was out and it felt warmer. And people who leave without warming up their car would at least be able to see the kids who were having to wait in the street because of all the snow piles.
