02/23/07 Update: An answer from Board Member, Stephanie Groce
I was honored when board member Stephanie Groce contacted me by email Friday night to apologize for the delayed response and offer with sincerity to listen to the concerns presented via this site. Although the question about walking the 2 miles was not directly addressed, she wrote,
"I will listen to what you have to say; I cannot promise any solutions, but I will do my best."
What more could I ask for? Thank you! Ms. Groce, I consider your response to be a positive as well and look forward to talking on these matters further with you if that's possible. Call me a dreamer, but I still hold out hope that Dr. Harris and other board members will soon choose to follow yours and Mr. Cabot's caring examples that so beautifully demonstrate your dedication to Columbus' children simply by offering up a little more time than a 3 minute speaker spot at a board meeting would allow, to give some consideration to these student safety concerns on behalf of some worried Columbus residents.
With now 2 positive exchanges with members, and 2 promises to spend some extra time reading and giving consideration to some of the issues presented here, we just could be heralding a new era of trust between Columbus residents and CPS. Thank you!
