Hi everyone, I do not attend a CPS but my school uses their busses and I can tell you first hand that the busses DO NOT run on time in the cold winter weather! We have waited at the bus stop anywhere from 10 min. to 1 hour before because the bus wouldn't start, the heat wouldn't work, etc. Also, that almost ALL of the older bus windows don't go up all the way! So even in the rare case that the bus IS on time, the dangerous cold is still a factor because the air comes in through the open windows![/b] Even if you do have a bus with good windows and that is on time, (yeah right) Getting to the bus stop is still dangerous because most kids have to walk and many of the sidewalks have 1 or more feet of snow on them because of the snowplows. This causes us to have to walk IN the streets, in the dark, on VERY busy, dangerous roads! Having school in EXTREME winter weather to avoid using all of the calamity days is DANGEROUS and UNCALLED for! I can tell you from the student's prospective that we would rather take a few days off of our summer than have to walk in this extreme and dangerous weather. [/color]

I agree, we should not have to go to school just because we ran out of calamity days. I also, would much rather add days in the summer than have to walk with all that snow (frozen snow) in the sidewalks that ypu can not really walking on, and the streets withso much ice its hard not to fall. And the school buses are also how you say. The windos do not close, heater does not work, bus not on time to the bus stop, and the bus driver racing throug the street for "being late".
