~ This is indeed just my opinion, on what was ANOTHER day that school should NOT have been in morning session because of weather related issues. ~
When I clicked on NBC 4's weather button this morning to check on the weather, as I do every school morning, the alert issued for Franklin County, out of 19 "Sever Weather Alert's" issued, read as follows:
9:46 AM EST WED FEB 21 2007
THE FREEZING FOG ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST TODAY. WIDESPREAD DENSE FREEZING FOG WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE AREA THROUGH THE REST OF THE MORNING. THE FOG WILL BURN OFF IN THE AFTERNOON...WITH TEMPERATURES RISING TO ABOVE FREEZING AS WELL.
The long and the short of it was, they were giving the solution to this weather related school delay or closing issue that the decision makers have to face everytime weather is an issue for CPS schools! My point is, it's called "Sever Weather" for a reason, a reason to cancel morning classes! Would it be so horribly wrong if the kids had to make up the time they lost this morning in a later school year or an earlier start to the next school year?
I was lucky enough to get to witness ALL 3 of my children fall as soon as their little feet hit the pavement outside, on their way to school this morning. Not to mention, my grandfather (who took my kids to school for me because his car is ALWAYS parked in our garage and he thought his car would be better to safely get the kids to school) fell in our driveway and slide through an intersection, taking my kids to school! And we're talkin' about a man who DOES salt and shovel and do whatever is necessary for weather related safety issues, with our property. This includes the driveway and surrounding sidewalks that aren't our property, as well. I'm happy to report, "No injuries and no casualties, THIS TIME, Sir!" When I called the school's FACT line about the issue, the recorded message said that "Due to the weather conditions, the results of the high school lottery will not be available until feb 28th." Isn't that a good one?!!!
Things HAVE to change!
